The other day, while tidying up my old things, I accidentally dropped one of my favorite ceramic tea bowls. It shattered into many pieces. Instead of throwing it away, I remembered the Japanese art of Kintsugi – the art of repairing broken pottery with gold, understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken. I started to see my moon differently.
And I started to think, what if the moon was broken? Could it be mended with gold and filled with gentle light? This is how "Kintsugi Moon" was born. A reminder that even in imperfection, there is beauty and resilience. This art is also a nod to Japanese culture, but from a point of view that only a foreigner like me can capture, loving a heritage so distinctively theirs.
I highly recommend this print on a coffee mug for a morning reminder to embrace your own imperfections, on a t-shirt, or as wall art, filling your space with gentle, golden light and the wisdom of embracing flaws. I will create the print for myself as a large canvas to make it a centerpiece of my dining room.
